Week two saw the bar stripped out, screed laid, sleepers installed in the patio, and more work on the windows and vines. At this point, the pub looked more like a building site than a pub. Construction vehicles were scattered around; bags of rubble and piles of wood lay about. There was a hustle and bustle on site: lots of contractors coming and going, and many packages and pallets being delivered. At times it seemed like nothing was happening; then suddenly the crew would pull everything together, and their attention to detail became clear. This felt like a huge step toward the pub feeling like it is being put back together. Green Farm Tree Care did a fantastic job on our trees, making the outside area airy, light, and clear. These two games made our top ranking. They are both easy to set up, easy to jump in and play and have that table appeal we are looking for. Ice cool is a penguin flicking game for kids to big kids. Being a game of tag but with penguin flicking! Easy for children to pick up and engage in, whilst also giving the even bigger kids a chance to make crazy trick shots. Cards VS Gravity offers a relaxed balancing game that can turn tense the more that cards to add to the ever growing tree. Decks of cards are the absolute base of any pub game. Outside of your basic cards, there is a wide range of card games that are easy to pick up and put down, easy to get the hang of and for any age to play. A new game we played was Skyjo. This is a game of luck where you are aiming for the lowest score at the end of the round. Mixing Uno with Six Card Golf and many others. Whilst we were getting stuck into the newer games, my grandma, as she does, went rooting around and found games I hadn’t seen for at least 20 years! Amongst the dominoes, boggle, cribbage and shut the box, we found Mancala and Pass the Pigs. These were absolute staples of many a camping trip, family holiday or weekend pass time. They have been passed around since the 80’s and 90’s but still in good nick! These simple games fit perfectly on a quiet table for two, by the fire, soaking up each others company. Saving the best till last. Carrooka! Now, we aren’t spoilt for space and every nook and cranny we must make the most out of! We both know that snooker and pool are staples of pubs and we unfortunately aren’t blessed with the space for them. Here is where this comes into play. My family kindly donated their board to our pub for everyone to enjoy. Carrooka is a a new spin on the classic snooker & pool with the indian game of Carrom. This handmade board offers an easy way to enjoy these classics. With simple rules, anyone from kids or adults can join in to play. This board was hand crafted by a gent called Jack and his wife, George. They aim to make everything by hand, plastic free and as little footprint as they can make. You can see the love thats put into the board and we hope that visitors to the pub will love it as much as we do!
