Set on the banks of the River Avon at Saltford Lock, The Jolly Sailor has been welcoming guests for nearly 300 years. Dating back to around 1749, it was originally established to serve the bargemen travelling between Bristol and Bath along the newly navigable river.
Believed to have started life as a mill house in the early 1700s, the building soon became a bustling inn at the heart of local trade and river life.
We aim to bring the pub back to its hay day and breathe life back in the old girl! With the community at the heart of the pub, we want to see the pub thriving, ever evolving and always listening to the locals.
We will be aiming to offer locally sourced food (where we can) and beer brewed by Wadworth, a short jump away in Devies. Not only do we want to keep everything as local as we can, we also strive to being as sustainable as possible, cutting down our food and consumable waste and looking into new ways to bring sustainability to the hospitality sector.
From talking to residents of Saltford, it has been made clear that music is a big part of why they visited The Jolly Sailor. We will be looking to bring elements of this back, along with some new exciting events which will be announced down the road.
We are always open to ideas and feedback so please do not hesitate to have a chat with us!

We are Jon & Ashlie, the new owners of this great pub.
We met back in 2013, dancing the night away in a small night-cub in Brighton. We bonded over our love to night-life, music, games and all things nerdy. We have had so many adventures and dreams over the years but the one aspiration that has stayed with us is owning our own pub. Now our dream has come true!
We are both born and bred Sussex before moving west ways to Wiltshire. Growing up, we spent a lot of our youth visiting pubs, being in the country side and later bar hopping around central Brighton.
Jon has worked in hospitality all his life, briefly some time out of the industry but it quickly swooped him back in. Jon loves the hustle and bustle of pub life, meeting new people and more important loves pub dogs! He loves all things gaming and has over 800 games just in Steam. He loves motorsports, especially F1, Lego and blaring music in his car!
Ashlie has worked for 10 years in childcare before moving onto a pottery cafe which sparked her passion with the hospo lifestyle. Running her own site, cemented the joy for her and she loves the history behind a pub and the stories from the pub go-ers. Ashlie has enjoys all things creative. She can turn her hand to any DIY, craft, or hobby. You name the craft and she’s probably got all the gear (probably only a small idea on how it works)
We are super excited to work together as a team and build up a beautiful pub that we can call our own!
We look forward to working with the community and bringing in our own flare to Saltford.
