How the weeks do fly!

What an incredible — and tiring — few weeks we have had!

Not long ago Jon and I moved into our accommodation, and the builders have been hard at work getting our little pub looking beautiful.

Week two saw the bar stripped out, screed laid, sleepers installed in the patio, and more work on the windows and vines. At this point, the pub looked more like a building site than a pub. Construction vehicles were scattered around; bags of rubble and piles of wood lay about. There was a hustle and bustle on site: lots of contractors coming and going, and many packages and pallets being delivered. At times it seemed like nothing was happening; then suddenly the crew would pull everything together, and their attention to detail became clear. Every day something new happened; it was like Christmas after they left, seeing the new flooring going down, tiles being placed, and slabs being set.

Week three was the beginning of it all coming together. With two weeks to go, it’s starting to look like the pub it was always meant to be. Flagstones were laid in The Nook and the walls were painted, giving it the cosiest vibe — perfect for larger tables or a more intimate dining area; we haven’t decided yet. The toilets progressed quickly and are ready for installation. Work also began on clearing some trees and trimming the hedges, which has brought so much light to the car park and opened the space up.

Week Four

This week saw the near completion of the entire patio area: fresh paving slabs, new gravel, and all the ivy removed from the walls. This felt like a huge step toward the pub feeling like it is being put back together. Green Farm Tree Care did a fantastic job on our trees, making the outside area airy, light, and clear. Inside the pub, everything was ticking over—floors finished, a few last bits of painting, new light fixtures and radiators — the puzzle pieces are starting to come back together.

Meet our Jolly Sailor!

We also added our hand-painted signs! They are absolutely stunning and have brought so much character back to the pub. This means we now need a name for our sailor!

Week five is in full swing and the place is buzzing—not just from the builders, but from locals and passersby. The atmosphere is electric and it’s full steam ahead! We’ll be announcing the official opening date this week on our social media pages. Not long to go!

See you all very very soon!
